C'zars Lounge Trivial:-How to Feel More Mentally Energized and Motivated!

Even though you've gotten your eight (ok, ten) hours of beauty sleep and sipped on a double-shot latte before heading into the office, the moment you sit down at your desk, you suddenly feel exhausted. What gives?

Turns out, being physically well-rested doesn't mean your mind is energized and ready to take on the day too. That's where Marianne Aerni and Dev Aujla come in. Aerni, the co-founder of Wild NYC, which creates learning and growth sessions, and Aujla, the author of 50 Ways to Get a Job and the CEO of Catalog, a recruiting and facilitation firm, lead workshops to help people gain mental energy and tap into their true potential at wellness and coaching studio Reset in New York City.

Here, the duo explains the innovative ways give yourself a mental—and motivational— boost.

What are some of your top techniques for helping people find more energy, creativity, and satisfaction in their lives?

Aujla: I like to work with people on freeing up mental space, which in turn lets them bring more energy to the rest of their lives. There’s one simple exercise I love. I make a list of what I call tolerations—those small things that are annoying but that you never change. Like running out of paper towels without having more on hand. Or your creaky bedroom door. Or the sticky zipper on your favorite pair of jeans. List them all, then set aside a day to eliminate them. Buy a ton of paper towels, grease the door, repair the zipper.

It sounds silly, but that takes a huge load off your mind, freeing up all this mental energy you never knew was missing. It’s one of those things I do three times a year. (Related: Can Energy Work Help You Find Balance Too?)

I absolutely love that. Are there any other sneaky mental drains we can get rid of?

Aujla: Commitments are a big one. Another suggestion I give to people is to note every commitment you make to yourself or someone else for three days. This isn’t about keeping track of your schedule. It’s about noticing how you make commitments without even realizing it. You just met with someone, and without thinking you say, “Let’s get together again soon” or “Let me send you that book I was talking about.” Commitments take up mental space. Keeping the log encourages you to be more judicious about your words and what you choose to do.

Another simple way to boost energy or motivation is to make a list of everything you want to learn. You can jot down any random questions that come to you during the day and can be answered with a quick Google search—Why do you see mirages?—as well as things that will take more effort to learn, like a new career skill. The list can reveal interests you can explore, motivate you to build a side hustle, or help you find fresh meaning in your current job. (Related: Tips to Turn Your Stress Into Positive Energy)

What about you, Marianne? What’s one of the most helpful exercises you like to do with people?

Aerni: One of the things I often bring up is feedback. It’s so helpful personally and professionally, but often we wait a long time to get it. At work you may have only one or two performance reviews a year—and it feels like this big hurtful thing. I teach people to ask for it regularly and to ask for it in this two-question framework: “Is there anything you think I could have done differently on this? Is there any particular thing you think I did well?” This encourages people to deliver more objective and less opinionated feedback, which ends up being more beneficial.

Do you have any tips for keeping up energy during the day?

Aerni: I’m a big fan of breaks. Smokers go outside for frequent breaks. Just because you don’t smoke doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take a break. Get outside, go for a walk, get a coffee. It’s very energizing. (Related: The Most Productive Way to Take a Break at Work)

Aujla: I’ve been using this app called iNaturalist. You take a picture of any plant or animal and send it to the app, where a big community of naturalists can identify it and talk about it. I love it. It gives me a reason to get outside and plugs me into my surroundings, which is great mentally. (These foods will give you the energy you need to power through your day.)

Bryant was among the passengers traveling onboard the helicopter. Nine people died in the crash, including the pilot, said Alex Villanueva, the Los Angeles County sheriff, during a news conference.

The National Transportation Safety Board said it sent a team to California on Sunday evening.

Daryl Osby, the Los Angeles County fire chief, said the crash site was difficult to access and that firefighters had to hike to the area.
It was not immediately clear how many passengers the helicopter was approved to transport, and fire officials said it was not immediately clear whether the helicopter was overloaded.
The N.B.A. sent a confirmation of Bryant’s and Gianna’s deaths to all teams and league employees Sunday afternoon, according to two people familiar with the document.

The other victims of the crash included John Altobelli, a longtime baseball coach at Orange Coast College, a junior college in Costa Mesa. Calif., as well as Altobelli’s wife, Keri, and daughter Alyssa, university officials said.

Tears as Navy, soldiers, render Tarkwa Bay residents homeless in Lagos.

Outrage as Soldiers, Navy, forcefully evict Tarkwa Bay residents.

Tarkwa Bay residents have been left in tears, as Naval officers forcefully evicted them from their homes in Lagos.

On Tuesday, January 21, 2020, many were rendered homeless after Nigerian Navy officers invaded the waterfront community of Tarkwa Bay and sacked residents.
In the latest mass-eviction in the state, Tarkwa Bay which houses about 10,000 people, was said to have been sacked to address the spate of vandalism being experienced in the state.

AFP reports that the eviction is basically aimed at stopping the looting of nearby oil pipelines.

According to the Nigerian navy, the operation was aimed at protecting equipment belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) from vandals.

“They build houses on pipelines and pump illegally,” Commander Thomas Otuji, a spokesman for the operation was quoted as saying. “All the people in the community aren’t vandals but if you don’t report it, you are part of it.”

During the eviction which stirred fear in the entire community, a mother of four who simply identified herself as Minda, said the occupants of the community had to leave in a rush.

“Soldiers have been in and out since the morning, shooting, and telling us to pack, pack, pack. They gave us one hour,” she said. “Nobody to help us carry, no cars. I have nowhere else to go to.”

While commiserating with victims of the recent pipeline explosion in Lagos, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu promised that his administration will show zero mercy to vandals in the state.

Tarkwa Bay is the 24th community in the area that has received eviction orders as part of the broader operation by the navy, activists from the Nigerian Slum/Informal Settlement Federation said.

Unlike other breast cancers, inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) rarely causes breast lumps and may not appear on a mammogram. Inflammatory breast cancer symptoms include:

Red, swollen, itchy breast that is tender to the touch
The surface of the breast may take on a ridged or pitted appearance, similar to an orange peel (often called peau d’orange)
Heaviness, burning, or aching in one breast
One breast is visibly larger than the other
Inverted nipple (facing inward)
No mass is felt with a breast self-exam
Swollen lymph nodes under the arm and/or above the collarbone
Symptoms unresolved after a course of antibiotics
Unlike other breast cancers, inflammatory breast cancer usually does not cause a distinct lump in the breast. Therefore, a breast self-exam, clinical breast exam, or even a mammogram may not detect inflammatory breast cancer. Ultrasounds may also miss inflammatory breast cancer. However, the changes to the surface of the breast caused by inflammatory breast cancer can be seen with the naked eye.

Symptoms of inflammatory breast cancer can develop rapidly, and the disease can progress quickly. Any sudden changes in the texture or appearance of the breast should be reported to your doctor immediately.

For women who are pregnant or breast-feeding, redness, swelling, itchiness and soreness are often signs of a breast infection such as mastitis, which is treatable with antibiotics. If you are not pregnant or nursing and you develop these symptoms, your doctor should test for inflammatory breast cancer.

Metastatic breast cancer symptoms
Metastatic breast cancer symptoms depend on the part of the body to which the cancer has spread and its stage. Sometimes, metastatic disease may not cause any symptoms.

If the breast or chest wall is affected, symptoms may include pain, nipple discharge, or a lump or thickening in the breast or underarm.
If the bones are affected, symptoms may include pain, fractures, constipation or decreased alertness due to high calcium levels.
If tumors form in the lungs, symptoms may include shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, coughing, chest wall pain or extreme fatigue.
If the liver is affected, symptoms may include nausea, extreme fatigue, increased abdominal girth, swelling of the feet and hands due to fluid collection and yellowing or itchy skin.
If breast cancer spreads to the brain or spinal cord and forms tumors, symptoms may include pain, confusion, memory loss, headache, blurred or double vision, difficulty with speech, difficulty with movement or seizures.
Papillary carcinoma symptoms
Although papillary carcinoma may not be present, a routine mammogram may detect its development. For those who do experience symptoms related to this type of cancer, the following may be common:

Mass: Papillary carcinoma is most often detected as a cyst or lump of about 2 cm to 3 cm in size that may be felt with the hand during a breast self-exam.

Nipple discharge: About 50 percent of papillary carcinomas occur beneath the nipple, resulting in bloody nipple discharge.

Triple-negative breast cancer symptoms
Although triple-negative breast cancer does not look different from other breast cancer, it has several unique characteristics, including:

Receptor status: Tests that detect receptors for estrogen, progesterone and HER2 will be negative, which means hormone therapy, a traditional breast cancer treatment, is not effective. Instead, triple-negative breast cancer treatment options will include chemotherapy, targeted therapy and radiation.

More aggressive: A greater tendency to spread and recur after treatment compared to other breast cancer types. This risk decreases after the first few years following therapy.

Cell type and grade: Triple-negative breast cancer cells tend to be “basal-like,” meaning that they resemble the basal cells lining the breast ducts. The cells may also be higher grade, which means that they no longer resemble normal, healthy cells.
